Latest News from Boston Osteopathic Health

Beginning in 2012 we have made changes regarding Blue Cross/Blue Shield.  Dr. Kristin Foley has closed her Blue Cross/Blue Shield panel meaning she is no longer taking new Blue Cross/Blue Shield patients.  Dr. William Foley has become an out of network provider.  This means you will be responsible for paying for the visit up front and will be provided with the necessary paper work to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.  Payment is required at the time of service. Most of our patients with a PPO type insurance receive reimbursement and many HMO type insurance plans reimburse if a referral by a PCP has been requested.  For more information on reimbursement for your particular insurance plan, it is best to call your insurance company.

It was a very difficult decision to limit the insurance plans we will work with.  We did so knowing, and regretting, that we would not be able to see some people that we would really want to.  The reality is that most small osteopathic practices can't cover their own costs.  The reason for this is that many insurance companies pay less for osteopathic services than it costs to provide the service.  Some companies try to make it hard to collect fees by using complex forms that are refused if not correctly and exactly filled out, by delaying payment, in some cases for years, by denying payment if the OMT was after the fact determined to be "not a proven therapy" or other little tricks.  This required us to jump through hoops and cut through red tape constantly.  We made the decision that we did not want to work this way as it took valuable time and energy away from our mission of helping patients.  If you have any questions regarding insurance changes at our office please call us at 617-431-4451.
